Goals for April ... whatever happened to March?

Umm …. I am not sure what happened to March. I think I blinked and my eyes stayed closed longer that normal! It was a busy month and went by so fast, to the point that I did not blog at all and never posted my goals! Does not help that we had no iternet for a week! Between church things, a huge garage sale, Spring Break and a trip to Texas, not much got done in March!

As a mom, I have to realize that sometimes my goals are good, but the only thing that is going to get done that day is the basics. People cleaned up, clean clothes and food on the table. It may be something I pulled from the freezer for dinner and the clothes may come directly from the drier, but I am learning that sometimes that happens. Being a minister’s wife, I am learning that Brad is always ‘on call’ and hours are off, which means that mine are too. I want to continue to make sure my family is on the top of my priorities list, but sometimes the house will be messy and dinner is sandwiches.

I still need goals, or I really will not get much done! My spiritual goal is the same, I am still working on reading the Bible through. The Bible is not as small as it looks! I am still in the Old Testament, but I have enjoyed just sitting down at night and reading it. The Bible takes on another taste when I just sit and open it up like a book, not paying attention to the chapters, and just reading it. I have no idea how much I will read this month, but I am going to read at least a little each day, hopefully some days that will turn into a lot.

My family goal is two parts as I am ‘splitting’ up my family this month! With Joanna, my goal is to completely potty train her this month. She does so good, but she only does as good as her mommy does. If I focus on her and we are home most of the day, she does great. But with a trip to Texas last week and several full days at church, it has been hard. We are also struggling with her going potty outside of our house. It is going to take time, she is doing good with it, we just have to keep at it!

Brad and I have focused so much on church things that we need to refocus on each other. Brad is typically gone from 7:30am to after 5:00pm, but is at church Tuesday nights, Friday nights and of course Sundays. This April though, each Saturday there is something as well. It is just a busy time of the year and I have to make sure we spend time together. We are so bad about turning on the TV after Joanna goes to bed and just watch two hours or so of … not sure what. Random stuff, and we chat about the show, the commercials, but don’t spend time together. We have started turning the TV off at 9 and going to our room. It is early, but we have enjoyed spending time reading, talking, and praying together. It is a wonderful way to reconnect and just spend time together with no distractions.

My personal goal for this month is pretty predictable. It is spring … time for spring cleaning! Monday morning I am going to start and hit every inch of the house hard. Do not know what ‘method’ I will be using yet, but I will have some kind of list or plan. I am actually hoping to have everything done in two weeks as we have Brad’s family coming down for Joanna’s birthday.

Each day will be different, and each night I often ‘judge’ myself. How good of a spouse was I? Or a mom? Or a cook? Or a house maker? Or a minister’s wife? I never live up to my expectations, but I need to make sure I live up to Jesus’ expectations. And He expects me to love and obey. That is all. Pretty short to do list.
